COZY MYSTERY LOVER, FARMERS' MARKET ENTHUSIAST, PLANT-PARENT
Rabbi Nicole Berne is the Associate Director at Metro Chicago Hillel. After growing up in Los Angeles, she ventured east for college (go Hoosiers!) where she double-majored in English and history. She likes to describe this as "reading things and writing about them." In college, she was very involved in community service but struggled to find a Jewish community that felt like home - part of why she's so enjoying helping other students avoid the experience she had. Nicole attended the Rhea Hirsch School of Education (HUC-JIR), where she received her masters, before continuing on to rabbinical school at HUC-JIR in New York City.
In 2020 when she began working at MCH, Nicole moved to Chicago with her partner Ted, a professional bread baker. Prior to joining the MCH team, Nicole worked at synagogues and camps in California, New York, and Arizona. She has written curricula on topics including professionalism and Jewish values and Judaism and fandom.
