Pre-Passover Clothing Drive for Migrant Families (April 1-18)

As we get ready for Passover and the weather warms, some of us get in the mood for spring cleaning, or start hitting the stores for spring styles. Let's harness that energy for good! We're looking for clothing and other items needed by our newest neighbors as they settle in to Chicago. We'll take care of collecting, sorting, and taking it to a center where it will be distributed to migrant families - all you need to do is drop stuff off at Base LNCLN in early April. (If no one is home, text Rav Sarah at 646-460-9583).

Pre-Passover Learning

  • There is A LOT going on at a Passover Seder, and let's be real, with everything else happening we rarely have the chance to dig as much as we'd like into the texts and symbols that night. Join Rav Sarah for this four part series as we work our way through major sections of the Hagaddah, gathering insights that will enrich our Passover experiences and beyond. We'll meet Mondays between Purim and Pesach at 8pm over snacks and drinks, and leave with new friendships and inspiring ideas to take with us into the holiday. Click here to register.

  • Join Artist Maya Kosover and Rav Moshe for Visions of Redemption, a 2-part pre-Passover series that explores text study and art making using the Jewish Studio Process. Come explore and reflect on how material objects or experiences change our vision, the way we see the world and ourselves, and this can create the conditions for liberation, or, in religious language, redemption, a central theme of Passover.

This series is created with the belief that we are all innately creative and have wisdom within us to share with the collective. Therefore, there is no prior experience with text study or art making required or expected

Passover Resources

Seder Resources

Passover, one of the most celebrated holidays in the Jewish world, commemorates the biblical Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. The week-long holiday is celebrated by munching on matzah, slabs of crisp, unleavened bread, and abstaining from chametz, or leavened food. Other observances include the seder (a ritual meal), lively songs, intense discussion and of course, debate. We were once slaves in Egypt, now we are free… LET’S EAT! Whether students are hungry for brisket and macaroons, or for the warmth of community and the light of Torah, Hillel welcomes them to the table. Passover begins with the first seder on April 22, 2024.

Metro Chicago Hillel does not charge students for our Passover programming. Your donations support multiple Seder experiences, Kosher for Passover meals, and additional holiday programming. Thank you for your support and for partnering with Metro Chicago Hillel to create a vibrant Jewish community for college students throughout the Chicagoland area! Click here to donate and select Passover from the drop down menu.

Thank you to Maot Chitim for it’s support of our Passover Seder through generous donations of kosher for Passover food.
